The advancements in technology have affected almost every industry, but seems to have hit the music industry the hardest. People simply don’t buy music like they used to, and now music artists are required to go the extra mile in order to maintain profit and popularity. Beyoncé
is an artist that knows this all too well, since she makes the very most out of touring, which is the biggest way to bring in money for music artists. Currently on the Formation World Tour, she has already announced she will embark on another tour as soon as this one ends.
While she isn’t the first or only artist that exudes admirable work ethic when it comes to touring, she is revolutionary when it comes to album releases and music videos. During the heyday of MTV, music videos were huge in creating buzz over an album and the network offered endless hours of back-to-back videos. However, the rise of reality TV caused the network to change their programming to include shows like The Osbournes and Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.
Justin Timberlake famously called out MTV during the 2007 VMA’s by saying he didn’t want to watch the Simpsons (Jessica and her sister Ashlee both had reality shows running on MTV at the time) anymore, and instead to, “Play more videos!” But unlike other artists that took the lack of music video airplay as a hit, Beyoncé used it as an opportunity to change the way it was viewed. Instead of creating a music video as an afterthought, Beyoncé has turned them into forms of art that create their own buzz.
Releasing visual albums without even so much as a “Save the date” reference, Beyoncé proved that she doesn’t even have to promote her album releases in order for them to sell. The release of her sixth studio album, Lemonade, is her second visual album with music videos that have been dissected to death. While diving into her latest album, let’s take a look at the 15 sexiest music videos by Beyoncé and see how they rank.
15. “7/11”
Released off the 2013 album, Beyoncé, “7/11” is a Platinum Edition Bonus Track for the album. While other Beyoncé videos feature the artist in couture, full makeup, and highly choreographed dance segments, this music video allows the audience to see a much more casual side to Beyoncé Knowles. The video is shot in different locations of a high rise, with shots that look like it’s just whatever hotel she must be staying in while traveling or on tour. The fact that it seems like it’s Beyoncé as herself and goofing around with friends (or most likely background dancers), makes it a super sexy alternative to the same old contrived music video that’s “trying” to be sexy. Instead, fans get to see the playful side of Beyoncé, from her using her foot like it’s a phone to dancing around in her underwear.
14. “Yoncé”
Beyoncé isn’t a stranger to being just one part of the show, since she was originally introduced to audiences as a member of Destiny’s Child. Along with the comfort of being able to share the spotlight, having additional girls around also gave fans more than one beautiful woman to look at during performances and music videos. While the other women are usually dancing beside or slightly behind Beyoncé, “Yoncé” takes it to another level by implementing the same video vixen aspect typically seen in rap videos. In one scene, one of the video vixens is even seen licking the cleavage of Beyoncé. The rest of the video is filled with close-ups of Beyoncé’s mouth, and various scenes of the vixens slowly feeling up on different body parts. However, the sexiest part is saved for Beyoncé wearing a bra-like top and shaking her booty while leaning up against a brick wall.
13. “If I Were A Boy”
While most of Beyoncé’s music videos involve choreographed dance scenes, “If I Were A Boy” has a music video with an actual storyline that coincides with the lyrics to the song. With the song telling the flipside of what life would be like if the tables were turned, Beyoncé plays a woman that doesn’t seem to appreciate the man she’s with. She takes on the characteristics usually attributed to the man in a relationship, from ignoring calls to brushing off a handmade breakfast. For those that aren’t turned on by the black-and-white picture or the lack of gyrating typical in a Beyoncé video, feel free to enjoy the fact that she’s dressed as a sexy cop and even has a frisking scene. Shown as a strong woman that can shoot a gun, Beyoncé proves that sexy comes in all forms.
12. “Best Thing I Never Had”
Released in 2011, off the 4 album, fans took to this song because it gave a glimpse into a Beyoncé wedding when they weren’t privy to seeing her wed Jay Z. Unlike other celebrities that exploit their weddings through released photos and reality show specials, Beyoncé and Jay Z have always been super low-key when it comes to their relationship details. The music video shows Beyoncé getting ready before her wedding, prior to putting on the wedding dress. Instead, she’s dressed in a sheer, white lingerie ensemble complete with garters and stockings. While other Beyoncé videos depict a dirtier form of sexy, this is a bridal-style sexy woman that flaunts her body in the best way.
11. “Check On It”
Showing that Beyoncé was the true standout artist in Destiny’s Child, “Check On It” was one of the first hit singles she mastered after pursuing her solo career. The video is a bit reminiscent of previous Destiny’s Child videos, with bubble gum pink tones and a more playful look to many of her outfits. Regardless, each outfit shows off a different sexy version Beyoncé can pull off. From the polka dot pink swimsuit with matching pink wig to the boxer braid look complete with a bare midriff, she mixes in her sexy styles with some hip movements that seem gravity-defying. Performing a standing backbend and some serious dance moves, nothing is sexier than a flexible woman that knows how to move her parts in all the right ways.
10. “Me, Myself, and I”
Released in 2003, off the Dangerously In Love album, the video is shot in slow motion with varying back-and-forth shots. The video tells the story of what happened that caused her to think she could only depend on herself, by playing the video in reverse. She wears a yellow and white flowing dress during a portion of the video, which is very J. Lo-esque with a plunging neckline and side cutouts to reveal her hips. However, it’s the tub scene that really gets the camera steamed up, since it shows Beyoncé all soaped up and submerged in a beautiful bathtub.
9. “Baby Boy”
Pairing Beyoncé with the reggae and Caribbean sound of Sean Paul, Beyoncé shows a tribal and Caribbean look in the video. Wearing a bedazzled top and writhing in ecstasy on a fur-lined bed, it seems almost as if she is tied to the bed laying in wait. The rest of the video shows the artist in varying scenarios, from dancing super close with a man at a house-party to a choreographed dance with background dancers on the beach. She continues the exotic theme by performing a tribal-like dance at night on the beach, wearing an ensemble that looks very belly dancer-esque.
8. “Rocket”
While the gyrating choreographed dance scenes definitely have their place, there is something to be said for just focusing on the simple beauty of Beyoncé. Shown in lingerie, the camera zooms in to different portions of her body. Water is used throughout the music video to further highlight the artist, from simple drops of water on her back to a full-on shower scene complete with a wet t-shirt shot. Subliminal messages are depicted throughout the video, with some being subtle and others being not so subtle. A shower portion suddenly goes into slow motion as the drops fall on her face, and she is seen giving her best ecstasy face (and nobody loves a shower THAT much).
7. “Haunted”
Taking full advantage of being part of the visual album, “Haunted” has a number of disturbing scenes throughout the video. With Beyoncé pulling up to an opulent mansion, the video seems to infer that the venue is haunted by ghosts. Beyoncé has donned a ’20s style hairdo, deep and glamorous makeup, and she even smokes a cigarette in the opener. While the other guests of the mansion are a bit over-the-top, the scenes involving Beyoncé wearing lingerie and a thong definitely redeem its sex appeal. Dancing on top of a bed with stockings and no bottoms, and later sprawled out wearing lingerie and a matching black crown, this is a video that speaks to a darker magnetism that is extremely sexy.
6. “Beautiful Liar”
Back when Shakira’s hips didn’t lie, Beyoncé collaborated with the Colombian artist to prove that she wasn’t the only one with bodacious hips. The pair show off their sexy dance moves, wearing a myriad of black ensembles. While they aren’t exactly matching, each outfit pairs well to almost make it seem like they are two different versions of each other. This is further shown with mirror-like dance moves and choreographed movements done in perfect sync. Brushing up against each other in the rain and laying together on the ground, this is a music video that definitely piques the interest and imagination of viewers.
5. “Dance For You”
Showing the same black-and-white look she tends to favor in music videos, “Dance For You” is set in a nostalgic time when women wore satin gloves and men wore Fedoras. Beyoncé walks into what looks like a private investigator’s office, wearing a trench coat and ultra revealing dress with garters and stockings. She starts off by stripping off the coat, and performing a highly sexualized dance that makes the audience feel like they’re watching a peep show with Beyoncé as the main star. Additional dancing girls join in on the fun in a cabaret-style setup, and the video ends with an ultra sultry Beyoncé giving “the look” before the screen goes to black.
4. “Crazy In Love”
The song that started it all, “Crazy In Love” shows the true chemistry between her and Jay Z. Beyoncé is shown in a variety of different looks throughout the video, including a supermodel shot where she is surrounded by fans and cameras. However, the sexiest portions of the music video is when she’s shown in a more casual light. Starting off with a white tank top, jean shorts, and red pumps, she proves that it doesn’t take couture for her to look like an absolute hottie. A simple white t-shirt can be the best way to flaunt a woman’s assets, especially when she’s engaged in some high-spirited dance moves and crawling around on the ground. The portion with her wearing joggers and a baseball hat is another casual look that takes the cake for ultra sexiness, since she can even make blowing a bubble with gum look sexy.
3. “Partition”
As one of the more artful music videos released by Beyoncé, “Partition” tells the story of how ravenous a couple can be with one another. She is seen sitting at the end of a long dining table, opposite her significant other, and surrounded by servants. Later she’s dressed in black lingerie with the headlights of a car putting her in the spotlight. Jay Z is shown in the video, feeling up on Beyoncé as their driver takes them to the club. Later Beyoncé is dressed in a bedazzled headdress and matching bedazzled ensemble that is basically only a few strings that completely expose her butt cheeks. Female hands can be seen caressing her, and she even works the pole a bit towards the end.
2. “Drunk In Love”
The lead single from the 2013 album, Beyoncé, “Drunk In Love” spawned a brand new look and style for the artist. Previously known for her flowing locks and sultry voice, this song features rap-style vocals and a brand new haircut. The video is shot on the beach, which coincides well with the wet hair look that she even duplicated when she performed the song live at the 2014 Grammy’s. Wearing a swimsuit with a sheer and flowing cover-up, the artist almost appears drunk in the video with a glassy-eyed stare. The video continues with slow cat-like movements rolling around in the sand and water, but true sexiness comes when she starts to dance with her legs open and bounces up and down with nothing but a skimpy bathing suit to hold everything in.
1. “Naughty Girl”
Giving a nostalgic look in the video, the setting features a club that mixes what you might expect from a speakeasy with a cabaret-style strip club. Beyoncé is depicted as the star of the show, with all eyes on her. Showing off her amazing silhouette, she is shown dancing behind a screen after taking off her bottoms. Later she’s in a giant champagne glass on stage, splashing around in the glass filled with soapy water. With lyrics like, “Tonight, I’ll be your naughty girl,” the video is the closest thing fans will get to seeing Beyoncé behave as if she were actually a stripper.
