Mean Girls is not just a popular Hollywood movie. They’re real and they exist in Tinseltown. In any case, no one should be even slightly surprised by this, considering the exclusivity of Hollywood. Every year, hundreds, even thousands, of girls venture off to Hollywood, in the hopes of getting discovered and becoming a big star. However, with endless competition and few opportunities, only a handful of these girls actually make it big. Hollywood is a dog eat dog world and unfortunately, the battle to be in the spotlight and stay relevant can bring out the worst in people. Although, Hollywood may seem like it’s filled with glitz and glam — it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Instead, it’s filled with real life Mean Girl’s that have absolutely no problem lashing-out at fellow celebs, cast mates, crew members and even their own fans. Whether they broke the rules of feminism by dating ex-boyfriends, publicly humiliated their peers or have just plain and simple, dished it out – these celebrities have been known to unleash a slight catty side. Here is a list of Hollywood’s 12 Biggest Mean Girls.
12. Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera has long been known to display diva-like behavior. She’s been openly called a ‘B**ch’ by a number of celebrities, including Kelly Osbourne, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne and Adam Levine. Julianne Hough even reported that Aguilera bullied her on the set of the film, Burlesque. However, it’s not just fellow celebrities that Christina has reportedly rubbed the wrong way. In early 2014, Aguilera went to a gag-gift store on Sunset Boulevard and requested that the doors be locked, so no one could leave or enter until she was finished. The customers already inside had to wait until she was done shopping and Christina apparently even laughed at them, when they asked for autographs and pictures. To top it off, while visiting Disneyland with her friends in December 2014, Aguilera called Mickey Mouse an ‘A–hole’ after she was told she’d have to wait, until after his break to take a photo with Mickey. Now, that’s just mean, Christina!
11. Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian is the poster girl for reality TV, but it seems there’s nothing real about Kim. Ex-husband Kris Humphries noted that he has voicemails from Kim, in which she refers to her fans as ‘nobodies,’ ‘pathetic,’ ‘gullible,’ ‘stupid imbeciles’ and ‘boring little nobodies.’ Earlier this week, even Charlie Sheen had enough of Kim’s mean girl ways. Sheen called out the 34-year-old reality star for refusing to sign an autograph for a 6-year-old girl. Charlie unleashed a number of Tweets at Kim including, “Zero gratitude, zero awareness, zero talent, a pox on the face of entertainment she is” and “Your public loves u. give something back or go f*** yourself.” Ouch!
10. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande’s sweet girl image is apparently just that, an image. Lately, it’s been reported that Grande is showing off her diva-like behavior and isn’t making any friends in the process. E! host Giuliana Rancic got to experience Grande’s diva-like behavior firsthand, in September 2014. Ariana argued about where she would stand during the interview, because she wanted to make sure her ‘good side’ was captured. When she wasn’t going to get her way, Grande threatened to cancel the interview, so Rancic obliged and let the 21-year-old girl have her way. In another instance that same month, Perez Hilton reported that Ariana allegedly walked into an elevator after mingling with her fans – and when the door closed, she said “I wish they would f**kin’ die.” That’s mean!
9. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez hasn’t been ‘Jenny from the Block’ since the 1990’s and it seems she has lost every ounce of humbleness on the way to fame and fortune. Reportedly, Lopez once refused to do an interview, because she thought the reporter wasn’t established enough. Another report states that Lopez got a maid fired for asking for her autograph. And other reports state that Jennifer always refuses to talk to ‘common folks’ and instead, talks through her assistants. One instance occurred when a flight attendant asked Jennifer what she wanted to drink. Instead of simply answering, Lopez turned to her assistant and said, “Please tell him I’d like a diet coke and lime.” That’s definitely not ‘Jenny from the Block.’
8. Katherine Heigl
From 2007 – 2010, Katherine Heigl’s career was seemingly on fire. She was on the hit TV series Grey’s Anatomy and was starring in films like Knocked Up, The Ugly Truth and Killers. Heigl was at the height of her career and it seemed like nothing could stand in her way, well, except for herself. Reports surfaced that Heigl was extremely difficult to work with, because she was demanding and rude. Cast mates and crew members noted that Heigl would question the script everyday, would refuse to leave her trailer and would always demand her wardrobes to be redone. Heigl made her bad attitude public, when she openly criticized the film Knocked Up, calling it sexist and then, criticized the writers of Grey’s Anatomy. By 2011, Katherine’s career hit rock bottom with two box office flops in a row. It appears people were unwilling to pay to see a mean girl.
7. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow has been considered a mean girl for a very long time. Back in the 90’s, Paltrow stole the script for Shakespeare in Love from her then-best friend Winona Ryder, who was up for the lead role. Paltrow called up the director and begged him to cast her instead, which he did. Fast forward 20 years and apparently, not much has changed. Paltrow is completely out of touch with reality, she bashes American culture and insistently preaches about her over-the-top healthy lifestyle. Gwyneth even claimed that her job was more challenging than being a working mom. Because of her comments, Gwyneth has made enemies with A-list stars, Jennifer Garner, Madonna, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Lawrence. As Paltrow would say, “I am who I am. I can’t pretend to be somebody who makes $25,000 a year.” OK.
6. Lindsay Lohan
Given her career track record, it should come as no surprise that Lindsay Lohan would be coined a Hollywood Mean Girl. From boyfriend-stealing (Aaron Carter from Hilary Duff), to broken friendships (Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie), to celebrity feuds (Paris Hilton, Scarlett Johansson), to even hooking up with friends’ ex-boyfriends (Paris Hilton’s ex, Stavros Niarchos III). The only issue is, we can’t help but question, is Lindsay Lohan an actress playing a Mean Girl, or a Mean Girl playing an actress?
5. Gabrielle Union
In 2013, while accepting the Essence Fierce and Fearless award, Gabrielle Union openly admitted to being a mean girl in the past, saying, “I lived for the negativity inflicted upon my sister actresses or anyone who I felt whose shine diminished my own. I took joy in peoples pain and I tap-danced on their misery.” That’s just cold. However, there’s been no recent reports of Gabrielle Union being a mean girl, so let’s hope she’s crossed over to the nice side. Then again, can a mean girl cross over?
4. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is known for throwing shade on her tracks, but it appears that the mean girl image is more than just an image – it’s Nicki. Back when Minaj was a judge on American Idol, many reported that she always showed up an hour or two late, arrived with a huge entourage, was rude to contestants and would refuse to talk to contestants or take photographs with them. In 2013, Minaj was interviewed by Access Hollywood correspondent, Laura Saltman and when asked about the beef between her and Iggy Azalea, Nicki blew up, berated Saltman and quit the interview. Saltman had this to say about Nicki, “In my 20 years in entertainment news, I have interviewed close to 5,000 celebrities – people who have bigger bragging rights than Nicki. Men and women who have Oscars, Grammys and Emmys. Yet by far she is the most ungracious of anyone I have met.”
3. Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton is like the real-life Regina George. Long before Kim Kardashian was a household name, she was Paris Hilton’s little friend. Hilton took joy in publicly humiliating her non-famous friend, Kim Kardashian, by telling her to clean her closet, not to speak when she is speaking and to rub her feet. She even referred to Kim as her maid. After Kim achieved fame, Paris sharpened her claws and made it her job to publicly insult Kim whenever possible. Paris’ mean girl persona also contributed to broken friendships with Tara Reid, Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.
2. Madonna
Madonna has been in the industry for several decades, so her diva-like behavior comes as no surprise. However, sometimes her diva-like behavior is so ridiculous that’s it’s just plain mean. In 2012, while playing a concert in Vancouver, Madonna put her mic in front of a fan in the crowd, who happened to not know the lyrics to the song, ‘Open Your Heart.’ Madonna responded by pulling the mic away and saying, “You really don’t know the song. What the f**k? Shame on you.” In 2011, a fan gave Madonna a flower arrangement of hydrangeas, to which the Queen of Pop’s response was, “I absolutely loathe hydrangeas.” These aren’t one-off instances either, many reporters, fans and fellow celebrities have reported that Madonna is plain and simple, a mean girl.
1. Rihanna
Rihanna uses Instagram and Twitter to play out her mean girl antics. She’s verbally assaulted Chris Brown’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, Karrueche Tran and poked fun at Ciara, adding fuel to a long-time feud. But RiRi’s worst offenses are her making fun of fans. The R&B singer posted a side-by-side pic of a fan and a goat, and asked her #RihannaNavy to find the difference. Rihanna did the same thing to a fan who Tweeted a picture of herself in a dress that she said was inspired by Rihanna. The pop star responded by Instagramming the photo with a frowny face and comparing the fan to a bat. It’s one thing to feud with fellow celebrities, but making fun of fans — that’s a serious no-no, RiRi.
