It’s that time of the year again, and with the French Open just wrapping things up earlier this month, the world is now tuned in to The Championships at Wimbledon. Held every year in early summer, this tennis tournament is the oldest in the world, going back to 1877. Always held at the All England Club in Wimbledon London, the tournament has always stuck to its old school traditions. Aside from Royal patronage and the enjoyment of delicious strawberries and cream, other traditions include a strict dress code for competitors.
The strict dress code has many female competitors refusing to wear what has been dubbed the “Nike Nightie,” a tennis outfit released by Nike that is said to be far too revealing for the tennis courts. Seemingly a light and loose fitting dress, the swift actions of competitors have the dress flying all over the place, revealing more than they desired. Additionally, competitors who have been seen wearing the “Nike Nightie” on the court appear to be struggling with it during their matches, possibly throwing off their performances.
One example of this dress wreaking havoc on the court was during qualifying rounds when Britain’s Katie Boulter was forced to use a headband as a makeshift belt in attempt to get her dress to stay in place. She ended up losing the match, possibly due to the distraction caused by the dress. It caused so much trouble for players that Nike was forced to set up a pop-up shop near Wimbledon to make necessary alterations. Even though the drama continues, these aren’t the most revealing outfits we’ve seen these Wimbledon women in. Here are some of the sexiest women competing at Wimbledon this year.
15. Daniela Hantuchova
Thirty-three year old Daniela Hantuchova is a professional tennis player from Slovakia. After winning her first WTA tournament in 2002 (she became the lowest-ranked player to ever win), her success continued to grow from there, and she quickly became known as a sex symbol within the industry. In 2009, she appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition alongside professional tennis players Maria Kirilenko and Tatiana Golovin in a pictorial titled “Volley of the Dolls.” She also posed nude for ESPN: The Magazine in 2012 for their “The Body Issue.”
While Daniela is known to take her training very seriously, she has been quoted saying that she finds modeling “fun to do from time to time.” And we can see why! She’s gorgeous! All of her training and hard work toward her tennis career has given her a slim and toned figure that likely gives her the confidence needed to take her clothes off in front of the camera.
14. Carina Witthoeft
This sexy blonde is just twenty-one years old and is already making waves in the tennis world. Born in Germany, Carina Witthoeft was ranked at number forty-nine in the world just last year. Her doubles ranking peeked at 313, but I foresee that improving this year. Growing up with tennis coaches for parents, it was inevitable that this German cutie become a pro. Her parents own two tennis clubs in Hamburg where she trains year-round alongside her older sister, who also plays tennis.
While we’ve yet to see her on the cover of Sports Illustrated, with her long legs and flat abs, I expect her career will expand past the tennis courts before we know it. With a slew of titles already under her belt, including eleven singles and one doubles title, there’s no stopping this bombshell at this year’s Wimbledon tournament. Follow her on Twitter to keep up with how she’s doing in Wimbledon and get some inside photos of her stretching before each match.
13. Zarina Diyas
Ranked number thirty-one for singles matches in the world, Zarina Diyas is one sexy lady to look out for at this year’s Wimbledon tournament. At just twenty-two years old, she has won five singles titles and peaked at number eighty-nine in the doubles rankings just last year. Zarina plays for Kazakhstan, the country in Central Asia she was born in, which is where her looks that got her on this list came from.
Her long dark hair and olive complexion allows Zarina to stand out on the courts, making her easily recognizable as she wrecks the competition. Fortunately for her, she is sponsored by Srixon, who provides her with all of her equipment and clothing, so she didn’t fall victim to the “Nike Nightie” that so many other players are having trouble with at Wimbledon. Likely you’ll see her dressed conservatively on the courts, still looking sexy in a simple t-shirt and skirt.
12. Heather Watson
Ranking as high as number three in the world, Heather Watson is one sexy Brit you don’t want to mess with on the court. Currently number two in Britain, Heather has ranked as high as number three in the world on the ITF Junior Circuit, and is now ranked number fifty-five on the “senior circuit.”
Unfortunately, her run at Wimbledon this year was short lived. In ne of the worst loses in her career, Heather lost to Annika Beck in the first round. The twenty-four year old seemed to take the loss hard saying, “I wasn’t pleased with the match in general, how I played.” She has received a lot of abuse from fans online over her playing, making it an even harder defeat. “After a loss like this, I’m so angry with myself I feel like I need to punish myself. It wasn’t a good day. I just went on Twitter. There was plenty.” We still have her doubles matches to look forward to, as she’ll be playing alongside Naomi Broady.
11. Donna Vekic
At just twenty years old, Donna Vekic reached a peak ranking of number sixty-two in the world. She holds a singles title on the WTA tour, as well as four singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF circuit. Starting at a young age, her first official tournament was in 2003 in Virovitica when she was just a child. It was ten years later, as a teenager, that she entered the WTA top one hundred.
Born in Croatia, this blonde bombshell gave Venus Williams a run for her money last year at Wimbledon. Williams, who is ranked eighth in the world, ended up winning the first and second round against Vekic. Donna was up by two during the second match, but an error allowed Williams to take back the game and inevitably win. We’ll have to stay tuned for her next match to see if this sexy Croatian can defeat the veteran five-time champion, Venus Williams.
10. Eugenie Bouchard
Just twenty-two years old, Eugenie Bouchard was the first Canadian to reach the finals of a Grand Slam in singles, where she finished as runner-up to Petra Kvitova. Additionally, she reached the semifinals of the 2014 Australian Open and the 2014 French Open. In 2012 she won the Wimbledon girls’ title. Currently ranked as number forty-eight in the world, we can see this Canadian beauty at this year’s Wimbledon tournament.
Bouchard was one of the many players who found themselves wearing the Nike Nightie. However, her opinion of the controversial dress is quite different than the other players’. She was quoted saying, “For me, I love it. It’s nice and short so you can move around and be free with your movements. Yeah, I don’t know. It’s funny that people paid a lot of attention to it, but I really think it’s really nice.” At least we know her playing won’t be affected by the Nike disaster.
9. Sloane Stephens
American tennis player, Sloane Stephens, notably rose to fame when she defeated Serena Williams and reached the semifinals of the 2013 Australian Open. Currently ranked number twenty-five in the world, Sloane has won four singles titles on the Women’s Tennis Association Tour and peaked at a ranking of number eleven. Born in Plantation, Florida, Sloane has athleticism in her blood. Her mother, Sybil Smith became the first African-American female to be named First Team All-American in Division I history as a swimmer in 1988 at Boston University. Sloane’s father John Stephens was a professional football player, playing for the Patriots, Green Bay Packers, and the Kansas City Chiefs. He was a professional football player for six seasons.
Scheduled to play against Mandy Minella in Wimbledon, we can expect to see this dark beauty in something bright and colorful to compliment her skin tone. Stephens is seen as the favorite to win, as Minella’s current ranking is 133. Only time will tell!
8. Dominika Cibulkova
Dominika Cibulkova is a seasoned tennis player at just twenty-seven years old. Currently ranked at number eighteen, this sexy Slovak is a former top ten player. Her most notable achievement was her appearance in the 2014 Australian Open finals where she became the first female Slovak to reach the championship round of a Grand Slam. Men drool over this tennis player’s chiseled long legs and voluptuous curves, whether she’s out on the court or all dolled up for a night out.
In a recent interview, Dominika was open about how she feels about former women’s world tennis number one, Maria Sharapova, absent from this year’s Wimbledon tournament. Sharapova was suspended after failing a drug test, and cannot compete for two years- however, it doesn’t seem like she’s missed. Dominika is quoted saying, “She’s a totally unlikeable person. I don’t miss her on the tour. Arrogant, conceited and cold. When I sit beside her in the locker room, she won’t even say hello.”
7. Aleksandra Krunic
This adorable twenty-three year old professional tennis player has reached her highest singles ranking of sixty-two and her highest doubles ranking at number eighty-nine. Aleksandra Krunic has only won a single doubles title on the WTA tour in her career so far. She was the runner-up in the 2009 Australian Open in the Girls’ Doubles division alongside Sandra Zaniewska. Later in 2010, she made her WTA Tour debut, playing doubles with Jelena Jankovic, who was ranked as number two in the world.
This Russian-born beauty plays for Serbia where she lives with her grandparents, however she still considers Moscow to be her home. Starting to play at the age of three, Aleksandra has come a long way since then. Defeated by Venus Williams at last year’s Wimbledon tournament, the unlikely match had viewers enthralled. Even though Aleksandra lost, the duo made headlines as Williams towered over her petite competitor. Only time will tell if the two will face off again this year!
6. Nicole Gibbs
Twenty-three year old tennis professional Nicole Gibbs was born in Cincinnati. She graduated from Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California in 2010 and then from Stanford University in 2014. This gorgeous woman was one of Stanford’s top players, and was a recipient of the Honda Sports Award for tennis in 2012. That same year, as an All-American in both singles and doubles, Danielle won both the NCAA singles and doubles titles in the same year. Danielle was the third player in NCAA history to win both NCAA titles in that manner. She was only a sophomore.
Gibbs shows love to all of her fans, keeping them updated on what’s going on in her life and replying to them on Twitter. One fan asked her, “When playing someone like Serena do you need to change your mentality in any way or do you just adjust your on court game?” Nicole responded by hilariously saying, “You need to go to church and pray,” prayer emoji and all.
5. Tsvetana Pironkova
The current number one Bulgarian tennis player, Tsvetana Pironkova, started playing at the age of four. She was introduced to the sport by her father, who later went on to coach her. In 2005, Pironkova made her WTA tour debut at the Istanbul Cup as just a teenager. She went on to compete at Wimbledon in 2010 where she became the second Bulgarian tennis player in history to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam in singles. Her performance earned her international recognition when afterwards she reached her highest ranking of number thirty-one in the world. The following year, Pironkova made it to the quarterfinals, granting her the nickname The Wimbledon Darkhorse.
Pironkova does great in her matches against Venus Williams- she has defeated Williams three times at Grand Slam tournaments, twice at Wimbledon. The list of her achievements continues, but it’s hard not to notice her beauty. MSN named her one of the most beautiful women in sports, and I have to say I couldn’t agree more!
4. Agnieszka Radwanska
Polish tennis player, Agnieszka Radwańska, is known for being an intelligent player and using the whole court to her advantage- so much so that other players have nicknamed her “The Professor.” At just twenty-seven years old, this beauty currently ranks number three and has ranked as high as number two in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association. Aside from her looks, she has earned many important titles over the years, including being the first Polish player in the Open Era to reach a Grand Slam single final, to win the WTA Finals, and to earn a WTA singles title. In 2006, she was granted the WTA Award for Most Impressive Newcomer, and we can surely see why!
The fans seem to love her, as she was voted WTA’s Fan Favorite Singles Player five years in a row, starting in 2011. Her accomplishments were also acknowledged by Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, presenting her with the Gold Cross of Merit in 2013. There’s no stopping this gorgeous woman from taking over the tennis world!
3. Venus Williams
Formerly ranked as the number one tennis player in the world, Venus Williams is one half of the two of America’s most talented athletes. It seems her and sister Serena Williams have been ruling the courts for over a decade. First given the pleasure of being named number one in 2002, Venus was the first black American woman to achieve this. Since then she has earned the number one spot on three separate occasions.
As a sex symbol from the start, she and her sister have been the faces of many brands and have appeared on the covers of dozens of magazines. Aside from her seven Grand Slam singles titles, Venus has also earned four Olympic gold medals. She and her sister have won more Olympic gold medals than any other tennis player, male or female.
Most recently, Venus made the news as she accused Wimbledon tournament organizers of court inequality between men and women. She was quoted saying, “I’m willing to play anywhere, any time. If all players have to play outside, all players should have to play outside. But there shouldn’t be exceptions or any inequality to it … We’d like to see equal amount of matches.” She’s referring to the fact that four of the six matches that were played on Centre Court and Court No. 1 were played by men.
2. Maria Sakkari
Twenty year old Maria Sakkari made her professional debut for the Greece Fed Cup team in 2012, which helped her to achieve her highest singles ranking of 114 just a few months ago. This Greek goddess is the daughter of Angeliki Kanellopoulous-Sakkaris, who also played professional women’s tennis. Even at such a young age, Maria has been able to accomplish a lot on the courts. She made her Grand Slam debut at the 2015 U.S. Open, and beat Wang Yafan in the early rounds of the Australian Open a year later. She then lost to Carla Suare Navarro in the second round, preventing her from moving on.
Just recently she won her second match at a WTA Tournament at the 2016 Istanbul cup, eventually reaching her first WTA quarterfinal. Seems like this adorable lady is on a roll, and she’ll be bringing her A-game to Wimbledon.
1. Serena Williams
The younger of the duo, Serena Williams has been ranked number one in the world by the Women’s Tennis Association on six separate occasions, the first time being in 2002. Many commentators and sports writers have labeled her the greatest female tennis player of all-time, and we can see why! She holds more singles, doubles, and mixed doubles titles than any other active players, male or female. Serena holds thirty-six titles, which puts her at number five on the all-time list of player’s records. I have a feeling she won’t be retiring until she sees her name at the top of that list!
Serena has been rumored to date several celebrities, including “Hotline Bling” singer Drake and rapper Common. She has spread her career thin, modeling as well as being the face of many brands such as Tampax. The sexy tennis star has also made appearances on dozens of television shows, including Drop Dead Diva, Law and Order, and My Wife and Kids.
